Terms of service & privacy

1. Membership

Membership of Youth Connect Tanzania (YCT) is open to young Tanzanians and friends of Tanzania aged 15 and above.

A one-time membership contribution of TZS 10,000 is paid against a control number before an account is activated. The payment is non-refundable once the account is created.

2. Accurate identity and location

Members must use their real name, a genuine profile photo, their true profession and an accurate location selected from the official Mainland/Zanzibar region, district and ward lists.

Businesses must state their exact ward so buyers can locate them. Misrepresenting identity, qualifications or location is grounds for suspension.

3. Content rules

No hate speech, harassment, tribal or religious incitement, pornography, fraud, pyramid schemes, counterfeit goods or political campaigning.

Videos are not uploaded to YCT. Publish them on YouTube and share the link with an honest description. Images must be small (max 1 MB; profile photos max 512 KB).

4. Reputation, penalties and awards

Every member holds a trust score and reliability score from 0 to 100 which map to levels L1 to L5.

Removing content that breaks these terms reduces the author's trust score, and the reason is recorded in their dashboard.

Reviews of 1–2 stars from employers or customers reduce the score; 4–5 star reviews increase it. Attending trainings and having professional challenges addressed increases it.

Scores are indicative community signals, not a legal guarantee of a member's conduct.

5. Recommendation letters

A signed YCT recommendation letter costs TZS 5,000 per request, paid against a control number or confirmed manually by an admin.

YCT may decline to issue a letter where a member's record does not support a recommendation. In that case the fee covers the assessment already carried out.

6. Marketplace and transactions

YCT lists youth products and services but is not a party to any sale. Members transact at their own risk and are encouraged to meet in safe, public places.

7. Data and privacy

We store your profile, location selections, posts, reviews, reputation events, trainings and payment references.

Phone numbers are visible only to you and to administrators. Social media links you add are public to signed-in members by design, so you can be referenced.

We never sell personal data. You may request deletion of your account by contacting an administrator.

8. Tanzania Personal Data Protection Act, 2022

YCT processes personal data in line with the Personal Data Protection Act No. 11 of 2022 and its 2023 Regulations. By registering you give informed consent for YCT to collect and process the data described in section 7 for the purposes of membership, verification, opportunities, marketplace listings and recommendation letters.

Lawful basis: your consent, and the performance of the membership agreement between you and YCT. You may withdraw consent at any time by asking an administrator to delete your account; withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out.

Your rights: to be informed, to access a copy of your data, to rectify inaccurate data, to object to processing, to request erasure, and to lodge a complaint with the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).

Data minimisation and security: we collect only what the platform needs, store it on access-controlled infrastructure with row-level security, restrict phone numbers and precise location to you and authorised officers, and keep payment records only as long as the law requires.

Transfers and third parties: payment references may be shared with the mobile-money or bank provider used to confirm your contribution, and videos you choose to upload are published on the official YCT YouTube channel. We do not sell personal data or transfer it outside Tanzania except through these service providers.

Children: members aged 15 to 17 must have the consent of a parent or guardian before registering.

9. Administration

The platform is administered by authorised YCT officers who moderate content, verify members, confirm payments and issue documents.

These terms may be updated; continued use of YCT after an update constitutes acceptance.
